Public Outcry After RSF Kills Paediatrician Dr Mohamed Ahmed Ali Al Siddiq

Dr Mohamed Ahmed Ali Al Siddiq, a paediatrician at Nyala Teaching Hospital, was killed in his home in Al Mazad neighbourhood in Nyala, South Darfur on 29 March 2026, by a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) officer.

He was a dedicated medical professional serving amid a severe security crisis in Nyala, South Darfur.

The perpetrators were an RSF officer and accompanying personnel. Reports indicate a violent home invasion following a dispute with the officer, who was reportedly renting part of the doctor’s home.

His killing has been condemned by Sudan Doctors Network (SDN), Sudan Doctors for Human Rights and many others on social media.

The incident is part of increasing violence against medical personnel in Sudan, with the Preliminary Committee of the Sudan Doctors Trade Union reporting that over 600 medical staff have been killed or injured since April 2023.

Nyala Teaching Hospital Nyala Teaching Hospital is a crucial medical facility that was rehabilitated in 2025 after being damaged by the war in Sudan. It serves as a vital referral hospital, treating thousands for conditions like malaria, sickle cell, and trauma amid ongoing security risks, including nearby airstrikes. The paediatric department had recently reopened in February 2025 with support from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders after sustaining previous damage, serving thousands of children with malaria and malnutrition.

The security breakdown in Darfur continues to pose significant threats to both medical staff and patients. The RSF has entrenched itself across the Darfur and Kordofan regions, carrying out sustained attacks on civilians as part of a campaign of ethnic cleansing — particularly in Al Fasher, North Darfur, since early 2025. More than 60,000 people have been killed in North Darfur alone.

In addition, the RSF has obstructed humanitarian aid, deliberately starving civilians. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) confirmed famine conditions in parts of Darfur and Kordofan in August 2024. Famine has now been recorded in 10 locations across Sudan, with areas reaching IPC Phase 5 — the highest level of food insecurity.

The war in Sudan began on 15 April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, resulting in the world’s largest displacement crisis, with 12 to 14 million people displaced and more than 150,000 deaths.
