Blue Nile Mashreg Bank Reopens Al Sajana Branch in Khartoum

Blue Nile Mashreg Bank (BNMB) has announced the reopening of its branch in Al Sajana, Khartoum on 27 April 2026, marking a notable step in the gradual restoration of services in the capital.

Al Sajana, located south of central Khartoum, was resecured in February 2025 by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The neighbourhood is home to the well-known Al Sajana Market and Al Sajana Street, a major thoroughfare in the southwestern part of the city centre. It also includes Abu Hamama Station, a key transport hub linking central Khartoum with its southern districts.

Founded in 1983, BNMB was established with a mission to deliver reliable banking services while contributing to Sudan’s economic development. Over the decades, it has grown into one of the country’s leading financial institutions, recognised for its technological innovation, stability, and customer-focused approach.

Prior to the war, the bank operated more than 20 branches across Sudan, including in Tuti, Al Fashir, Nyala, Kadugli, Al Gadarif, Al Geneina, Kosti, and Damazin, among others. BNMB provides a wide range of financial services to commercial, corporate, and retail clients, serving entities such as large corporations, international oil companies, non-governmental organisations, diplomatic missions, UN agencies, and multinational firms.

With a strong track record of growth and reliability, BNMB continues to be a trusted banking partner for thousands of customers across Sudan.

Sudan has a large banking sector (around 38 banks), many of which are gradually returning depending on security conditions. Many of banks are in different stages of reopening or partial operation, depending on location.

Bank of Khartoum is leading the recovery of banking services on the ground, resuming broader operations as stability returned to parts of Khartoum. One of the most active in reopening branches include Al Halfaya branch (Bahri) in February 2025, and Wad Madani (Al-Sunni branch) in January 2025

Central Bank of Sudan resumed operations in Khartoum in early 2026 after the army regained control of the capital. This is crucial because commercial banks depend on it to fully function again.

Omdurman National Bank is not a full reopening announcement, but it is working to restore international banking connections, which is a key step in recovery.

Other banks include:

  • • Faisal Islamic Bank
    • National Bank of Sudan
  • • Qatar National Bank
  • • Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank
  • • Al Baraka Bank Sudan
