Today’s scene embraces a vibrant mix of genres, as many artists modernise traditional sounds to resonate with younger generations both in Sudan and abroad.
In this series, New Sounds of Sudan, we highlight new Sudanese songs from traditional to contemporary, celebrating the evolution of Sudan’s rapidly growing music scene.

In conclusion of the month of March 2026, Eman Elshareef drops a track with an unexpected twist: a stray that cannot be further from her typical style. Late 2025 has been a year of experimentation for the popular artist, and she continues to blow our minds with her latest track, a slow song, with both contemporary and traditional influences, leaning towards Arabic influences at times.
“El Deleel Shinu” – Nada Algalaa

After a long hiatus, iconic singer Nada Algalaa, known for her traditional music, returns to the Sudanese music scene with an upbeat romantic song produced by singer Ahmed Amin. The song leans on contemporary influences, a completely new approach for the singer.
“HABSHA” – WISSY ft. VETO, 249CVRTI, MSH3AL, COLO

WISSY’s latest production featuring a collaboration of various rappers, including the iconic Colo, a new style of Sudanese rap is brought fresh to the music scene. The production features a rapid percussion that draws from Afrobeat influences, with melodic rap that leans on traditional melodies in some parts of the track.
“Seebak Minnahom” – Roua Mohamad Naim

Roua Mohamad Naim’s latest track draws influence from party music and zanig, the rhythm-driven, high percussion genre of music that originated in the streets of Khartoum. Her raspy vocals complement the melodies of the track.
“Games Bodra” – Eman Elshareef

After experimenting with contemporary sounds, Eman Elshareef returns to traditional sounds for her latest track, with playful melodies complimenting the playful, flirtatious lyrics.
“Abul Talata Banat” – Roua Mohamad Naim

After her soaring success with Asyad Al Lawari in 2020, Roua Mohamad Naim releases yet another potential hit, with a saira track, a Sudanese genre which is rich in percussion and is produced specifically for weddings and public celebrations.

In a track produced by Omar Keif, Hleem Taj Alser raps in his effortless flow, his words flowing smoothly over a haunting melody and thrilling beat.
“Asyad Al Maqam” – Mohammed Bashir

In light of the festive Eid vibes, Mohammed Bashir released a song leaning heavily on traditional influences, and much like most of his music, the track has an upbeat feel, making the listener want to raise a sword and dance along.
“Arkizo Lai” – Haram El Nour

Haram El Nour returns to the music scene with her unique raspy voice, with another traditional banger. The track, like most traditional music, makes the listener want to jump to his feet and move to the beat.
“ZAY EL-BEH HALATO” – Awadia Azab

In pursuit of Eid celebrations, iconic female singer Awadia Azab releases a fun, playful song with its flirtatious lyrics paying homage to Sudanese Eid traditions.
Yallah Nargus (Album) – Razeen Khattab

After the controversial music video to his song “Sudan Nights” was released in February 2026, Razeen Khattab released a 14-track album titled Yallah Nargus, featuring his latest single “Anna Afriqi” on 21 March 2026, which samples the unofficial national anthem of Sudan, Ard Alkhair (The Land of Blessings). The album, while an homage to his Sudanese roots, melodically leans more towards Arab and Western influences rather than authentic Sudanese melodies, while his lyrics reference Sudanese culture on more than one occasion.
“BABOR JAAZ” – EZ9

As part of Eid festivities, EZ9, also known as Ezzo, released his most recent track, which became a viral hit very quickly on social media platforms such as Tik Tok, where Sudanese and non-Sudanese people displayed their Eid attire to this track.
“BOOMA” – HLEEM TAJ ALSER X KA7LA
Release date: 19 March 2026
In a powerful track depicting some of the struggles faced by Sudanese people, Hleem raps for the Arab rap battle platform Rap Shar3. While the production was in collaboration with Libyan rapper Ka7la (or Kahla), the salute to the Sudanese struggle was clear as day on Hleem’s part.
“Janai Ana” – Elaf Abdalazeez

In the days leading up to Mother’s Day, Elaf Abdalazeez delivers a heartfelt song that reflects the love, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion of mothers. The track stands as a tribute to motherhood, honouring the profound role mothers play in shaping their children’s lives.
“Hakawi Al Hawa” – Hussien Elsadig

Bringing back traditional sounds with vibrant oud melodies, Hussien Alsadig released his latest heartfelt track with words of passion and melodies to match.
“Jureat Al Wilada” – Eman Elsharif
Release date: 8 March 2026
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health in Sudan, Eman Elsharif released a song titled Jureat Al Wilada (The Birth Dose), to advocate for the vaccination of newborns. The song lyrics revolve around the benefits of vaccination and the song ends with a message from the Ministry of Health announcing the introduction of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) vaccination as part of the routine vaccination schedule for newborns in 10 different states in Sudan.
“Ma Farga” – Jafar Amin and Ahmed Amin
Release date: 4 March 2026
On this heartfelt track, Jafar Amin and Ahmed Amin collaborate to share what love means beyond fear. The track features hopeful melodies, filling the listener with warmth and peace, very much similar to what the lyrics convey.
