What’s New In Sudanese Music (April 2026)

In recent years, the Sudanese music scene has flourished, with new musicians and fresh sounds emerging so quickly that it’s almost hard to keep track. Today’s scene embraces a vibrant mix of genres, as many artists modernise traditional sounds to resonate with younger generations both in Sudan and abroad.

In this series, New Sounds of Sudan, we highlight new Sudanese songs from traditional to contemporary, celebrating the evolution of Sudan’s rapidly growing music scene.

Headlining April’s music releases are the reimagined “Khawatir Fiil” and Sulaf’s debut song “Naada.” The month also saw a strong wave of new music from artists including VETO, MOSAUCE, Connan, and Jafar Amin, contributing to a vibrant and diverse release schedule.

While previously known for his traditional touches to his tracks, Veto released his latest track with a Western influenced production. “Uzi” is one of three tracks the rapper has released from his upcoming album “Sound Storm”.

In a collaboration with traditional singer Monzer Ramadan, Kordofani draws influence from traditional sound by sampling one of the biggest classic traditional songs Ellela Ellela (Tonight, Tonight). This reimagined cover of the late Nour Al Jailani’s “Khawatir Fiil” stands out as a powerful and emotive production, accompanied by a highly creative music video. The project brings together a diverse collective of Sudanese artists, including Rimaz Mirghani, Zolo, Ustaz Awad Ehmoody, Nadir Talsam, Ustaza Hayatt Talsam, Mutasim (of Dr Abuzar elKoda Choir), Idreesy, Yusra, MaMan, Ali Naseraldeen, and Ustaza Zikrayat Shamseldin, and was produced by XAIN. The video not only reflects the emotional depth of the song but also speaks to the lived realities of Sudan and its people.

The original song, “Thoughts of an Elephant,” written by Hassan Baara, composed by Suleyman Zeyn al-’Abdeen, and performed by Nour Al Jailani, is considered one of the earliest Sudanese works addressing animal rights, focusing on a baby elephant held in captivity at Khartoum Zoo. The music video was produced by Collective Sudan (formerly the Cash Consortium of Sudan), a partnership of 19 NGOs delivering humanitarian assistance across the country, and aims to highlight locally led, coordinated, and context-driven responses to crisis-affected communities.

From hit to hit, Jafar Amin is bringing a fresh contemporary sound to the Sudanese soundscape, and his latest track is no different. In the track, “Aniseeni” (“Be My Comfort”), Amin puts his soft side on display, singing about the vulnerability and pain experienced in love.

Influenced by Western hip hop, “ASM3” (“Listen”) is a track that flows in a monotonous, but catchy style. Rapper Bani’s vocals sit comfortably at the front of the track, becoming the main focus of the song as the production of the track is relatively stripped down.

Despite the track being leaked before its release, 249CVRTI and Soulja deliver an impeccable performance on their latest song, “Jabra”, one of the most loved neighbourhoods of Khartoum, located in the southern side of the capital city. Following in his recent path of traditionally-influenced music and a lean into zanig, Sudan’s highly rhythmic genre, the song features elements of traditional sounds.
