Songs of a Nation: How Sudani and Rotana Flour Mills Marked Sudan’s Independence This Year

On 1 January, Sudan celebrates its Independence Day. This year marks 70 years since independence. To commemorate the occasion, major Sudanese companies, from food and beverage to telecommunications, released special productions. Among them, Sudani and Rotana Flour Mills both unveiled new songs on 1 January 2026 in celebration of Sudan’s Independence Day.

Rotana Flour Mills, one of Sudan’s largest flour production companies, has released “Ana Al Sudan” (I Am Sudan) by AwabTheRapper and Hajer Mohamed Hassan, bringing the duo together once again for a successful patriotic Sudanese song that celebrates Sudan and Sudanese identity. Hajer delivers rich, emotive vocals, while Awab contributes lyrically powerful rap verses. In the video’s description, Rotana Flour Mills wrote in Arabic: I am Sudan. A spring of civilisations, the origin of the story, and a legacy of glory that never fades, despite all circumstances… proud and resilient, dignified by its people and its homeland.” The music video features both singers alongside scenes of Sudan’s landscapes, everyday Sudanese life, and its people, as well as footage of the Rotana Flour Mills factory.

The duo previously collaborated with Rotana Flour Mills on Raja‘ana” (We’ve Returned), released on 1 January 2025, which also became a hit.

Sudani, one of Sudan’s leading telecommunications and Information & Communications Technology (ICT) companies, has released “Ana Min Hina” (I Am From Here) — a special production celebrating Sudan’s 70th anniversary of independence. The project features an original song that incorporates a mashup of iconic nationalist works by legendary Sudanese artists who have since passed away, including Mohammed Wardi, Mohammed Al Amin, Asha Al Falatiya, Mahmoud Abdelaziz, Abdelkarim Al Kabli, and Al Atbarawi, all of whom appear in various forms throughout the piece.

The creative and emotionally resonant music video unfolds as a narrative in which a young Sudanese man enters a traditional Sudanese home and is warmly welcomed by the sounds of nationalist songs performed by each featured artist. He later picks up a book titled “Ana Min Hina” (I Am From Here) before leaving the house with a smile, symbolising belonging, memory, and national identity.

In the video’s description, Sudani wrote in Arabic:

From Sudan, the land of resilience, rich history, and ancient civilisation, which today celebrates 70 years since Sudan’s independence; seventy years of pride, dignity, and belonging.

On the anniversary of Sudan’s independence, Sudani Telecommunications presents this national artistic work in appreciation of the role of Sudanese art and music in shaping the national conscience and preserving the collective memory of the Sudanese people across generations.

In this work, we recall timeless names that helped shape the spirit of the nation, and we express our gratitude to all the artists, poets, and composers who accompanied Sudan’s journey through their art:

– The late artist Mohammed Wardi and the late poet Abdelwahid Abdallah in the Independence Anthem, “Today We Raise the Flag of Our Independence.”
– The late artist Mohammed Al Amin in “Yalla Nafrah Kulna” (Let Us All Rejoice), with lyrics by poet Omar Mahmoud Khalid.
– Artist Asha Al Falatiya in the timeless work “Yijoo ‘Aaydeen”, affirming that art never dies.
– The late artist Mahmoud Abdelaziz in “Al Midfa‘ Al Razzam”, with lyrics and composition by Omar Al Banna, expressing the values of generosity and sharp insight.
– The late, ever-present Al Kabli in “Al Qawma Leek Ya Watani”, a moment of reverence for the homeland.
– And we conclude with the great national artist Al Atbarawi in “Ana Sudani” (I Am Sudanese), with lyrics by Mohammed Osman Abdelrahim.

This work is a tribute to one homeland that unites us, a national epic stretching from the moment of independence to its 70th year, reflecting the spirit of Sudan and affirming that art has always been, and will remain, an essential part of our identity.

Wishing you well every year,
And may Sudan be well—always.”

Zain Sudan released a teaser for an as-yet-unknown production on 1 January 2026, featuring singer and actress Eiman Yousif alongside singer Mazin Hamid. The teaser, accompanied by the line “What’s the original story?”, appears to hint at a romantic narrative rather than an independence-themed song.

The full production or advertisement has yet to be released.

Both Sudani and Rotana Flour Mills frequently release patriotic songs as part of their advertising campaigns, particularly to mark Sudan’s Independence Day. Like Rotana Flour Mills, Sudani previously collaborated with Hajer Mohamed Hassan, releasing the hit song “Ana Sudani” (I Am Sudanese) in 2016. Hajer has long lent her voice to productions for various Sudanese brands and is also the singer behind the popular female empowerment anthem “Sudania”.

Sudanese companies have a long history of featuring local singers in their advertisements, ranging from traditional artists such as Taha Suliman and Eman El Shareef to contemporary performers like Mazin Hamid and Amjad Shakir. In recent years, Sudanese rappers have also gained popularity and have started appearing in brand campaigns. For example, Cashi, Sudan’s largest electronic payment network serving companies, merchants, and customers, released “Sid Al Mustafa” in March 2025 for Ramadan, featuring the dynamic duo rapper Essam Satti and singer Ali Nasreldin.
