Kanon Hotel Suites officially reopened on 17 January 2026 on Almarat Street 15 in Khartoum, following extensive restoration after being destroyed during the war. The four-star hotel underwent six months of maintenance and rehabilitation.
Previously a popular destination for corporate travellers and tourists, Kanon Hotel Suites offers both short- and long-term accommodation options for business travellers, families, and visitors.
Prime Minister Kamel Idris recently visited the newly reopened hotel as part of a broader campaign encouraging diplomatic missions, United Nations (UN) agencies, and international organisations to return to the capital within one week, as the government moves to reactivate key hospitality infrastructure.
Accompanied by Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza and Acting Minister of Culture and Information Al Tayeb Saad Eddin, Idris toured several major hotels, including the five-star Al Salam Rotana Hotel Khartoum and the historic Grand Hotel, to assess their readiness to host international delegations.
Idris stated that restoring these facilities is a critical step in rehabilitating Khartoum’s service infrastructure and reflects the government’s commitment to re-establishing the capital as an administrative and economic hub. He specifically instructed the management of the Grand Hotel to accelerate maintenance work, citing its historical significance and popularity among international visitors.
Governor Hamza said the state is implementing a comprehensive programme to restore tourism and service facilities, describing them as essential pillars of economic recovery. Current efforts, he noted, focus on infrastructure upgrades and ensuring safety and quality standards to meet future needs.
Hamza also expressed the state’s readiness to cooperate with hotel owners and private companies by streamlining administrative procedures and providing technical support for debris removal. He added that coordination with federal institutions is underway to restore essential services, including electricity and water, and ensure hotels resume operations according to set timelines.
The governor concluded that these efforts form part of a broader vision to reconstruct Khartoum and restore its role as a national capital capable of hosting official events, international conferences, and investment activities, while creating employment opportunities for citizens.
