Abdul Wahab Al Sadiq, Pioneer of Sudanese Folk Music, Dies at 80

Renowned Sudanese musician Abdul Wahab Al Sadiq, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Sudanese folk music, passed away on 6 June 2026 at the age of 80 following an undisclosed illness.

His death was announced by the Musical Professions Union and the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) on 6 June 2026.

Born in 1946 in Abu Qouta, Al Gezira State, Al Sadiq was celebrated for his melodious voice and distinctive performances. Through a vast repertoire of timeless songs, he left an enduring mark on Sudanese music and culture.

He began his artistic career in the early 1960s in the Al Bant district before joining Dar Falah for folk singing, where he established himself as one of the country’s most beloved performers.

Among his most famous songs are Sit Al Reed Baqat QasayaMin Baad Ma Fat Al AwanMa Ahla Al TasafiBa’ad Da Kullu Kaman Bitbaki, and Habayibi Al Hilween.

Many took to social media to mourn his passing, including official platforms and organisations such as Al Merrikh SC and Zain Sudan, which paid tribute to the late singer and expressed their condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
