On 13 March 2026, the Sudanese Society for Astronomy and Space Sciences (SSASS) announced that Friday, 20 March 2026, will mark the beginning of Shawwal (1 Shawwal 1447 AH) and the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
Eid Al Fitr, a three-day Islamic holiday, will run from 20 to 22 March 2026.
Several countries have already shared their projections; Oman has announced 19 March, while others, including the UAE, Indonesia, and Australia, expect it to fall on 20 March. However, official moon sightings will still take place on 18 March for final confirmation.
Eid Al Fitr is a major Islamic holiday beginning on the first of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” it marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, serving as a day of thanksgiving, celebration, and spiritual renewal. Its core purpose is to celebrate the successful completion of a month of fasting (seyam/sawm), communal worship, and increased devotion to God (Allah). The festival is celebrated with morning prayers, special meals, new clothes, and family gatherings.
