In recent years, the Sudanese music scene has flourished, with new musicians and fresh sounds emerging so quickly that it’s almost hard to keep track. Today’s scene embraces a vibrant mix of genres, as many artists modernise traditional sounds to resonate with younger generations both in Sudan and abroad.
In this monthly series, New Sounds of Sudan, we highlight new Sudanese songs from traditional to contemporary, celebrating the evolution of Sudan’s rapidly growing music scene.
This January has seen the highest number of new releases since our series began, highlighted by albums and EPs such as Hleem Taj Alser’s Mission Impossible.

Rap Shar3, the Egyptian-owned platform dedicated to amplifying Arab hip-hop and rap culture, has released another cypher featuring a lineup of Sudanese rappers and singers, including Awab The Rapper, EEVIL, DAWLH, KORDOFANi, DIZASTER, SHAHD, OMNIA, and COSTAA.
“LA2TA” – MONTIYAGO

Popular Sudanese rapper Montiyago released “La2ta” as part of his 1999 album, accompanied by an official music video that features the artist rapping from a car.
“3yny ya LYL” – Wishe featuring Raghad

Love is in the air in this new single, which brings together Sudanese singers Wishe Qusia Jamal Alamin and Raghad for an emotive, soft, and romantic tune.
“Ma Tagool ‘Athir” – Ali Alsheikh

Accompanied by an official music video, Sudanese singer releases “Ma Tagool ‘Athir” — translated as “Don’t Give Me an Excuse” — a heartfelt breakup song that delivers raw emotion through aching lyrics and powerful vocals.
MaMan – Garmboza (Official Live Performance)

MaMan releases a special live performance of “Garmboza”, a track first released a year ago, accompanied by a group of musicians including Anda, Noya, Ruba, and Shayma. The project marks a turning point in his artistic journey and the beginning of his Afrobeat and Afro-fusion sound.
“I found myself in Garmboza, and I’m truly proud of it. From here, it’s only going up,” MaMan said.
“Ansuni” – Eman Elshareef

Nearly every month, Eman Elshareef — one of Sudan’s most beloved singers — releases a hit. This January, it’s “Ansuni” (“Forget Me”), an upbeat track rooted in traditional sounds. The song centres on self-empowerment, learning from past mistakes, and standing strong, while choosing to distance oneself from those who wish to bring you down.
“ANA W ANA” – OBIE

Rapper Obie releases “ANA W ANA”, accompanied by an official music video, in which he raps about struggles with a partner and regrets the day they met.
“Bedato Wa Hasa Ghalabak” – Mayada Gamareldin
Release date: 24 January 2026
Traditional Sudanese singer Mayada Gamareldin releases a relationship song that explores the beginning of a romance and the later struggle to keep it going. The track falls within the tradition of aghani banat — a popular Sudanese genre often referred to as “girls’ music.”
“Seed Alwjaha” – Ghayaz Alagha featuring Raghad (Prod. NINJA249)
In his new track, Ghayaz Alagha delivers rap alongside Raghad’s hook vocals, blending Darfuri rhythms from western Sudan with modern Afro-dance and drill music. Produced by Ninja249 and featuring the traditional Banimbo instrument, the song bridges Sudanese heritage with contemporary sound. Now streaming everywhere.
“Warini” – Shokralla Ezeldin

“Hakuna Matata” – Soulja

Soulja returns with another hit, “Hakuna Matata” (Swahili for “no worries”), accompanied by a trance-inspired official music video. Sporting his signature beaded braids and zebra jacket amid hazy neon lights, he is joined by the same girl from his previous hit “Dayman”. Shokralla Ezeldin dedicates “Baldna Bekom” (“Our Country is With You”) to Sudan’s children and future generations, especially school students, who have faced immense challenges since the war began in 2023. The conflict has caused a severe education crisis, leaving over 8 million children — nearly half of Sudan’s school-aged population — without schooling for almost 500 days. Many schools have been destroyed, occupied by armed groups, or repurposed as displacement shelters, creating a lost generation of learners.

After releasing her debut song Yamma in November 2025, Sudanese singer and rapper Malak Izeldin returns with Taggo, a fresh departure from the vocally rich, slow tune of her first release. Taggo is her first rap song, driven by upbeat Afrobeat and Amapiano rhythms. The official music video features behind-the-scenes clips and Izeldin performing the song, surrounded by other Sudanese women. The title Taggo refers to tagging someone on social media to make them easy to find.
“Zay Zaman” – Amjad Shakir
Singer Amjad Shakir releases “Zay Zaman” (“Like Old Times”), a love song rooted in nostalgia and emotional honesty. The track reflects a longing for simpler days and a love that felt pure, before distance, time, and life changed everything. With heartfelt lyrics and warm vocals, the song comes with an official music video featuring Shakir in a Michael Jackson-inspired modern look, joined by dancers in a few choreographed moves.
“Alkomsare” – Kasha Alneel

Singer Kasha Alneel returns with another hit, accompanied by a playful, storytelling music video. The song tells the story of her affection for Alkomsare, the bus doorman who also lives in her neighbourhood.
“El Raida El Bina” – Connan (Remix) featuring @Skales

Marking Sudanese Independence Day on 1 January, singers Mamoun Swaraldahab and Nadir Adam released “Watana Alzain” (“Beautiful Home”), a patriotic and hopeful song created in the midst of the ongoing war.

Traditional singer Makarim Bashir delivers a deeply emotive romantic tune, accompanied by an official music video, celebrating love even through times of struggle.

249CVRTI – Sarab (Prod. @249Flac)

“Sarab” is the opening track of 249CVRTI’s debut EP MKTB, marking a strong debut for the young rapper. Released with an official music video, it features him performing amidst dark streets and construction sites, rapping and dancing to the track’s Zanig and rap-infused beats.
Jafar Amin – KALNAR (ALBUM)

Singer Jafar Amin’s “Kalnar” (“Like Fire”) is a soft romantic tune about a firey love between two, sung in both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and colloquial Sudanese. Jafar Amin is the younger brother of singer Ahmed Amin, who also contributes to his new music journey by handling mixing and mastering.
Hleem Taj Alser – Mission Impossible (ALBUM)
Releaset date: 7 January 2026
Hustler is the opening track from Hleem Taj Alser’s new album Mission Impossible. Released on 7 January 2026 with an official music video, the video was directed by Salem Almezwge and Hleem Taj Alser, and produced, mixed, and mastered by DJ Aloo. The album was followed by the release of Nas Kitira Ghdara on 9 January 2026.
