JVBVLIYV: Aisha Al Jabal Debuts New Name and Brand With a Bold New Sound

Popular singer Aisha Al Jabal has recently launched a new name, brand, and sound – a bold departure from the folklore and gona style she is best known for, moving toward a more modern and contemporary aesthetic. She now performs under JVBVLIYV – جبليه.

Under her new name and brand, she launched a new YouTube channel and released three singles: starting with the short, introductory track “Al Banina” on 25 October 2025, followed by “Telim Telim” on 12 November 2025, and “Bluma Why” on 19 November 2025. The songs explore themes of homeland, conflict, and resilience. Her new releases bring together the work of Saudi-based singer and composer Ahmed Amin, as well as Sudanese producers DistroKid and Cinebarprod, among others.

“Al Banina” is a one-minute track that serves as an introduction to Aisha Al Jabal’s new sound, featuring anthem-like beats and lyrics by Zeinab Mohamed Nour. The song plays with the popular melodic phrase “Banina Hiyya; Bana Bein Ya Bina; Ya Banina Hiyya”, traditionally sung at Sudanese wedding ceremonies, jirtik.

In “Telim Telim”, Aisha Al Jabal explores a completely new sound, rapping for the first time alongside Mazin Peter and Shadow. The song pays tribute to Al Fasher, highlighting the ongoing atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city and across the Darfur region.

The powerful “Bluma Why” sees her singing directly to her people – the people of Darfur and their pain, blending emotion with innovation. It is also her first newly released song accompanied by a music video, one of which was produced using AI technology.

Her new sound and image carry a serious tone, conveying a message of resilience and marking a departure from her previous party music brand and persona. JVBVLIYV may also be the title of a new album; however, Al Jabal has yet to make an official announcement. The new sound, however, will not replace her traditional folklore style, as she intends to continue catering to that aspect of her musical identity as well.

Born in Khartoum in 1999, Al Jabal is one of the youngest singers in the Sudanese traditional folklore music scene. Her real name is Aisha Muhammad Saleh. The name “Al Jabal” originates from the Jabal Awliya region south of the capital, while her family roots trace back to the city of Al Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan.

Al Jabal rose to fame as a gona singer, a female party performer known for upbeat, danceable “common” music. She leads a band with her vocals and lyrics and occasionally dances, performing at small, private events usually held in homes. Gonat (the plural of gona) often engage in feuds, expressed through lyrical attacks and competitive performances.
