Freedom for Sudan, a newly launched initiative launched by Sudanese writer and activist Amel Mukhtar supporting Sudanese communities facing ongoing violence and exploitation, is hosting an online fundraising auction featuring an expansive lineup of global artists and creatives spanning music, fashion, film and food.
Launched shortly after Sudan celebrated its 70th Independence Day, the auction opened on 6 to 12 January 2026, with all proceeds going directly to Sudanese non-profits providing medical aid, food assistance, grassroots resistance work and emergency relief across the country.
Artists announced so far include The Weeknd, SZA, PinkPantheress, Olivia Rodrigo, Central Cee, Kelela, Akinola Davies Jr, and among others. Hosted on Galabid, the auction offers exclusive one-off items and experiences, including a portrait by PinkPantheress; a hangout with SZA; a one-on-one mentoring session with Akinola Davies Jr.; bespoke playlists and signed vinyl by Kelela; custom mixtape by MIKE; VIP tickets to The Weeknd; a “premium” night at Camden’s Jazz Cafe; and more.
War in Sudan began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in the displacement of 12 to 14 million people and the deaths of nearly 200,000. According to the UN, it is the world’s largest displacement crisis and worst humanitarian crisis.
