Al-Bait Baitkom Presents Returning Sands

November 14
$10

Returning Sands join forces with one of New York City’s most vibrant grassroots Sudanese organisations, Al-Bait Baitkom, to host an unforgettable evening of Sudanese culture – live performances, community archiving, and beautiful solidarity.

Along with a great lineup of Sudanese artists, this special edition will feature a live collage activity for all of their guests to participate in.

All proceeds from the event will support the upcoming documentary, Returning Sands, which explores the fight carried out by displaced Sudanese artists and heritage workers to keep Sudan’s cultural heritage and memory alive amid ongoing conflict and displacement.

Returning Sands is more than a documentary, it’s a cultural impact project dedicated to preserving and sharing Sudanese cultural heritage threatened by ongoing armed conflict and displacement. The Sudanese cultural heritage campaign was founded by heritage and creative professionals, including American investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker Paris Quetzal Sistilli, Sudanese-Bermudian editor, writer and researcher Yusef Bushara, and Guatemalan-Italian writer and filmmaker Camilla Marchese Gonzalez. An entirely not-for-profit initiative, Returning Sands seeks to ensure that Sudanese heritage remains visible, accessible, and understood by audiences around the world. Through documentary filmmaking, public exhibition, archival material, and intercultural education, the project and organisation brings Sudanese heritage and those working to protect it to the fore. Public programming will begin in the fall of 2026. For more information, visit https://returningsands.org
